Description

Ainsworth, a township, a village, and an ecclesiastical parish formed in 1867 from Middleton parish, Lancashire, 1 mile from Bradley-Fold railway station, and 2 1/2 miles E of Bolton, under which there is a post office; money order and telegraph office at Breightmet. Acreage, 1309; population, 1821. The Earl of Wilton is lord of the manor and principal landowner. Cotton manufacture is carried on. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Manchester, in the gift of the rector of Middleton; value, £265. The church is good, and there are Unitarian and Methodist chapels.
