Description

Bicker, a parish in Lincolnshire, 4 miles SW of Swineshead station on the G.N., 1 1/2 mile NE from Donington Road station on the G.N. and G.E. Joint railway, and 8 WSW of Boston. It includes the hamlets of Frist and Gauntlet, and part of the tract of Coping-Syke, and has a post office under Boston; money order and telegraph office, Donington. Population of the ecclesiastical parish, 661. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lincoln. Patrons, the Dean and Chapter of Lincoln. The church was once cruciform, has a transition Norman nave, and a central tower. It was restored in 1876. The south aisle, clerestory, and porch, long dilapidated, were restored in 1893. Most interesting discoveries of ancient carving were made in the old foundations. There are also Primitive Methodist and Wesleyan chapels, and several charities.
